Well, for starters: I think you did a great work with this side.
So, now for the Lightsabers. I think an obvious influence on Lucas was Korusawa. And maybe other Knight tales. But what is a kight? Not even depending on your culture, a knight is a worrior with a code of honor I think. No matter if you're talking abt european knights or samurai (in a way, even Shaolin) a knight is a noble worrior. And what's the weapon of a knight?Iis the sword. As Bruce Lee said: the simpelest answer is usually the right one. Yes, a sword. And when you're talking abt swords, I am sure it's not a jump to a 'light' or 'lazer' (as he called em in the first draft I could get) sword. Not if you're talking abt sci fi or fantasy anyway.
Any ideas?
Best regards...and keep up the great work!

Speaking of Lightsabers, one particualr interesting book I came across at Amazon.com is called "Shimmering Sword: Samurai, Western, and Star Wars Sword Fighting" by Nick Jamilla. This book traces the origins of the "Fighting Philosophy" of the Jedi to that of real-life warriors of both the east and the west. The book seem to be covering a lot of the ground covered in the site, and judging by the sample pages found in Amazon, the author (a real-life martial artist and swordsman) knows what he's talking about. I'll probably order this one soon, to pass the time until Kristen's book will come out
