Archetypes.
Otherwise its like arguing which branch in a tree is most like the seed, when clearly the seed will be more seedlike than any branch.
Example:
Past - Fanstasy = LOTR where they destroy a 1D circle (i.e. the ring) Future - Sci-fi = Star Wars where they destroy a 3D circle (i.e. a Sphere)
Branches in time, all point back to the seed.

Subey: I agree that ideally it could all be broken down to archetypes, but how can we tell for sure which were used? Did Lucas think deathstar = 3d one ring, or deathstar = campbell's version of Jung's "shadow" + [there's some ancient scifi paperback called "deathsphere" or something]? Lucas has helpfully given away many clues in interviews, and more are available in his biographies, and we can make strong guesses based on which classic films he was exposed to in his film program at school. Beyond that it's all increasingly-dubious logical speculation backed mostly by acquiring an ever-improving intuitive feel for what choices Lucas likely made based on what choices we know him to have made.
I break things down to the lowest point I feel confident is 60-98% likely to be correct. It's certainly not the final word. If you feel strongly about it, I encourage you to make a star wars origins website with your focus! If you do, let me know and I'll link.
Thanks for input!
Best, Kristen B.
